Electric Motor Apprentice

General Summary:

 This full time, paid apprenticeship position is intended to develop knowledge and skills required to troubleshoot and repair /rewind various types of electric motors.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred minimum level of education: high school diploma.

• Basic mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work under minimal or no supervision.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to understand, perform and retain various skill-related training and operational and safety procedures.
• Clean driving record.
• Assist in skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor.

Physical Abilities: 

Frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

• Regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk

Apprenticeship Program will result in the following essential job functions:  

• Test electric motor to troubleshoot suspected problems using various methods.
• Disassemble electric motors noting parts identification, configuration, and condition.
• Clean electric motor assemblies as needed using various methods.
• Measure for or note proper replacement parts for electric motors.
• Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electrical motor assemblies.
• Retest reassembled electric motor for proper output and operation.
• Complete required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
• Keep work area neat and clean.

Machinist

Smith & Sons is a full-service machine shop servicing the greater Boston area for more than 90 years. With continued success we are currently hiring a full-time machinist. We are looking for a self- motived professional who possess outstanding work habits and has a strong machining background preferably related to machine repair.

Essential Skills

• Strong attention to detail
• Good math, written and verbal skills
• Ability to function as a team player
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Thorough knowledge of a manufacturing environment
• Ability to perform various tasks requiring manual dexterity and lifting abilities
• 3 years of machining experience
• Must be proficient in all types of general machining.

Maintains work area in a neat and orderly condition. Works safely and complies with all established safety rules and work practices. Understands written directions & procedures. Self-motivated and willingness to learn.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, stand and handle tools. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain timely production schedules to ensure quality goals are met
• Work closely with Shop Manager to track materials purchased and hours worked in customer database
• Assist with customers and vendors deliveries
• Follow workflow details and scheduling of jobs with management
